Phil James has thirty years experience in the design, development and implementation of secure payment products for international payment schemes, financial institutions and retailers. He has an in-depth working knowledge of the drivers and technology within the global mobile payments market from projects he has completed for American Express, Barclaycard, HSBC, Mastercard, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Visa amongst others. He has a similar level of experience and knowledge with the standards and payment scheme specifications which underpin these services, as well as the process of designing and implementing new services. Since 2006 Phil has been applying his experience as a Senior Consultant to banks, card issuers, regulatory bodies and the public sector to advise them on matters such as card acceptance, new payment technologies, researching the security vulnerability of contactless payment transactions, requirements analysis and testing of payment transaction systems. Phil is highly technical, has worked with many scheme contactless and mobile specifications and works to the lowest level of detail whilst being mindful of the user experience. Prior to joining Consult Hyperion, Phil had worked for over 20 years at Racal-Transcom (later Thales-E-Transactions), a terminal vendor, as a pioneer of the electronic card payments industry and major contributor to the formulation of the APACS standards underpinning UK card payments.
